The impressive house that can be seen today is only about a third of the size of the vast mansion created in circa 1605–14 by Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk. It retains much of its original character, and contains fine Robert Adam and Jacobean revival interiors. The gardens and landscape, shaped by various owners to complement the house, reflect many changes in English garden fashion.
You will arrive at the property to enjoy morning refreshments in the House Keeper’s Room and Servant’s Hall which are included in the tour package. Spend free time admiring the interiors of what was once one of the largest and most opulent houses in Jacobean England. Wander the impressive great hall, magnificent state apartments, intimate dressing rooms, libraries and 18th century gothic-style chapel before breaking for lunch at your leisure. Meet back at the Garden House later within the walled garden to go on a tour of the beautiful kitchen garden which will be flourishing in the growing warmth of the sun whilst the fruit trees will be smothered in blossom especially the plums and pears.
For the last hour you will have a chance to visit anything you may have missed including Victorian Stable Yard, the Victorian Stable Yard as well as the remainder of the beautiful gardens.
