Hundreds of people will join together on Saturday 16 September 2017 for a night out with a difference to raise vital funds for Heart of Kent Hospice.
Family, friends and colleagues will remember, support and sparkle their way round the Hospice’s eight mile Moonlit Walk on a circular route which starts and finishes at Preston Hall in Aylesford. Walkers will leave Preston Hall at 9pm and make their way along the marshalled route through the villages of Aylesford, West Malling and East Malling before returning via a magical lantern lit, cross country mile providing an unrestricted view of the night sky.
For one couple, Moonlit Walk will have extra poignancy. It will be Deborah and Steven King’s first Moonlit Walk in remembrance of Deborah’s mum, Yvonne Grimwood, and also their first wedding anniversary.
“The Hospice means a huge amount to my family. It was the last place my mum felt safe and found peace.” Deborah said.
“We had to postpone our wedding because mum became too ill, so we had a blessing at the Hospice instead. The Hospice and our local vicar, Silke Tetzlaff, were incredible in coming together at short notice to enable us to commit our lives to each other in front of my mum. It meant the world to us.”
Deborah’s mum passed away on 18th August 2015 ten days after the blessing. “We’re coming up to the second anniversary and she is missed terribly. When we saw the Moonlit Walk we wanted to take part. It was even more special to do it knowing that it is in mum’s memory and we’ll finish the walk on our first wedding anniversary.”
Deborah and Steven will be joined by her brother and sister-in-law, Jonathon and Danielle Grimwood, who have also signed up to Moonlit Walk.
Sarah Pugh, Chief Executive at Heart of Kent Hospice says: “Moonlit Walk 2017 is a great opportunity for our local community to celebrate and remember their loved ones. Their support for the Hospice will ensure that we can continue to provide exceptional care for our local community and for people like Deborah’s mum.
Walkers will also be invited to create a wall of memories with photographs and personal messages to celebrate the lives of those they have lost. They will also receive a special edition Moonlit Walk 2017 t-shirt and medal on the night.
