Malling District Lions donation will enable Hospice to utilise their space more effectively

Posted on 21st August 2019

Currently Heart of Kent Hospice is supporting 778 terminally ill patients and their families from Maidstone and surrounding areas. Most patients are supported in the comfort of their own homes and come to the Hospice to attend the free activities offered by the Living Well programme. The programme offers a choice of up to 20 weekly group sessions for patients and their carers, to enable and empower them to live independently and improve their quality of life.

With a growing variety of sessions being offered by the Living Well programme, the Hospice has seen an increased need to be able to use their spaces more flexibly. The Hospice chapel is a warm and attractive space with lots of potential for flexible use. However, its large heavy wooden chairs could not be stacked, which made it really difficult to easily adjust the space. Following the generous donation of £1,620 from Malling District Lions, 60 smart stackable chairs have been purchased for the Chapel which now means that the space can now be used for a variety of living well activities, such as singing and pilates.

Kerry Harrison, Director of Patient Services explains, “Our Living Well programme allows patients and a loved one the opportunity to attend sessions which help manage their symptoms, can improve mobility and their sense of wellbeing. By attending the sessions patients and carers gain invaluable peer support, social interaction and education benefits. ”

If you or someone you know with a terminal illness might benefit from attending our Living Well programme please email kelly.moore@hokh.co.uk or call 01622 792200, Ext 258.
