Sainsbury’s Larkfield colleagues and customers chose Heart of Kent Hospice as their charity of the year for 2017/2018. The store located on the Aylesford Retail Park is just minutes away from the Hospice. Store Manager Steve Surridge said “It has been so good to help a charity that is so close to the store and that has touched so many of our customers and colleagues lives. So many people have told me that they would have been lost without the support of the Hospice when faced with a terminal illness and bereavement.”
The store helped raise awareness of the Hospice among its customers and colleagues. They helped promote the Hospices’ services during Carers Week and supported 3 Hospice fundraising events by donating refreshments. Whilst colleagues held a Christmas jumper day and book/DVD and CD sale, Hospice volunteers Norma and David had their stall of handmade knitted items and good quality, pre-loved toys for at the store entrance for four days. All this activity alongside the collection pots at the tills and instore bucket collections by Hospice volunteers has raised an amazing £6,585.28. Which exceeds the stores aspiration of raising enough to pay for a day of care on the 10 bed Inpatient Unit!
The Hospice’s Corporate Partnerships Manager, Claire Whybrew said, “Thank you to everyone at Sainsbury’s and their customers who have donated so generously. Your wonderful donation will make a true impact to our patients and their families.”Back to News
