On Sunday 30th April over 1,000 walkers of all ages and many dogs came together to ‘Get Behind’ Heart of Kent Hospice for its annual Bluebell Walk. For 30 years, local people have enjoyed this important Hospice fundraiser, which this year started and finished at Harrietsham Village Hall.
For 6 year old Elsie Embleton from South Maidstone, near Loose, this was her first Bluebell Walk. Elsie wanted to ‘Get Behind’ Heart of Kent Hospice as her mum Hayley, has an extremely rare and complex autoimmune disorder. Hayley’s consultants and GP’s have been given support and advice from the Hospice staff with regards to pain relief. Elsie’s mum said, “She did it!! And she met her personal goal of doing it without “whinging” (her words not ours!!)” Elsie walked with her daddy, something they enjoy doing together, and do far she has raised £549 with an additional £110 in gift aid via her justgiving link you can read her story here; https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/TheEmbletons
Others who ‘Got Behind’ the Hospice this weekend were Waitrose who kindly donated water for walkers and their dogs, Tesco provided the event essentials such as beakers, napkins and other accessories. Gary & Lisa provided refreshments and a beautiful picnic place where families could buy a windmill in memory of a loved one before heading downhill back to the Village Hall where walkers enjoyed refreshments and fun. Thank you to all the walkers and our army of volunteers who helped to make Sunday such an enormous success. 91p in every £1 raised on Sunday will be spent on patient care.Back to News
