Our ‘Moonlit Memories Walk’ takes place on 23 September, and is one of our most important events raising much needed funds to provide compassionate end-of-life care and support for patients and their families at the Hospice or at home across Maidstone and surrounding areas.
Walkers are encouraged to create their own fundraisers, so that friends, family and colleagues can show support for their 8 mile walk. One such fundraiser is Margaret Boyle, who is walking in memory of her late husband Jon.
“My family and I are raising money for the Heart of Kent Hospice for the love and care they showed my late husband Jonathan Boyle in his final weeks.
The 27th February 2021 was one of my darkest days when we received the dreaded diagnosis of Jon’s condition which turned out not to be the news we had hoped for. We fought and battled daily from this point whilst navigating the challenges of the health care system.
Sadly, in just 10 weeks from the original diagnosis Jon sadly passed away, I cannot tell you how heartbreaking this was for me and a part of me died that day along with him. Something which I never want to experience again.
I can truthfully say that the only time we felt the utmost love, care, dignity and happiness in the whole ordeal was the time we spent at Heart of Kent Hospice. I owe some of the best last few days spent with Jon to them and they could not have been more caring and loving to us.
The staff provided a level of comfort and rest in those final moments that I will always be grateful for. I can never get my husband back, but those memories will be treasured dearly forever.
I am truly thankful to everyone who works at the Hospice and they will always have my continued support.
May you rest in peace Jon, Love Marg. x"
Margaret’s fundraising page has already raised over £1,300 and we are so grateful to her for sharing her story with us.
