Heart of Kent Hospice’s annual Bluebell Walk is due to take place on Sunday 3 May 2020. Unfortunately, in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have taken the really difficult decision to cancel this year’s event.
The Bluebell Walk has been a long standing fixture in our event calendar for over 30 years – and over that time, we know it has become a favoured diary date for many people to come together with family and friends to support us. Indeed, it was originally set up to raise the funds needed to build the Hospice and over the years has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds, enabling us to provide outstanding end-of-life care to thousands of local people. The walk enables family and friends to get together for a six mile walk in the beautiful Kent countryside enjoying the Bluebells that feature along the route
In more recent years, we have encouraged participants to remember their loved ones as part of our walk, providing a space for walkers to pause, reflect and remember by dedicating a personal message on a wind spinner in the Field of Memories.
Whilst we are unable to organise our walk to enjoy this year, we are pleased that we can still offer a ‘virtual’ Field of Memories where you can make a dedication in memory of a loved one. We hope that during these uncertain times, remembering a loved one, and still being able to support the Hospice will be of comfort. As you can imagine, the cancellation of this key event in our fundraising calendar has a direct and immediate impact on our funding. Last year, over 1,000 supporters took part and raised over £32,000 for the Hospice. Our priority now is to identify how we can recover this lost income in other ways. Despite COVID-19, we are still committed to supporting 880 people in our community.
For those participants already booked onto the walk we will be offering them the opportunity to carry their entry over to our 2021 Bluebell Walk, due to take place on Sunday 2 May 2021.
