Thank you for considering leaving a gift to Heart of Kent Hospice in your Will. Money left to us in Wills forms a vital part of our annual income and helps to ensure that we will be able to meet the ever increasing needs of our local community.
Leaving a gift in your Will costs you nothing now. We will receive the full value of any gift you to choose to leave to us. All gifts will be exempt from Inheritance Tax (IHT). No matter how large or small your gift is we can assure you that it will make a real difference to the care that we are able to provide for patients and their families in the future.
We promise to use your special gift wisely and effectively, we value every pound that is donated to us and put it to the best possible use. You don’t have to tell us if you choose to remember Heart of Kent Hospice in your Will, however, if you do we can thank you and keep you informed of our current work.
Each year Heart of Kent Hospice invites local Solicitors to take part in Make a Will month, where Solicitors donate their time for free, giving you the opportunity to make or update a Will with them, in return for a donation. The next Make a Will Month will be held in April 2019, if you would like to find out more about how you can make your Will during Make a Will month please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01622 790195 or keep an eye on our website.
Why should I make a Will?
Making a Will ensures that when you die, your estate is shared according to your wishes. Everyone should have a Will, but it is even more important if you have children, you own property or have savings, investments, insurance policies or you own a business. Having a Will means you can guarantee that your family, friends and favourite causes are looked after.
How do I make a Will?
It is strongly recommended that you consult a Solicitor or Will writing professional who can advise about legalities and handle the process for you. You could also take part in our Make a Will Month; during April 2019 several local Solicitors will provide their time free of charge in exchange for a donation to the Hospice to provide a professionally written Will. Please contact Claire Ashby on 01622 790195 to request a list of participating solicitors.
What if I already have a Will?
If you already have a Will, it is vital that you keep it up to date; the Government suggests that you review your will every 5 years and after any major changes in your life. This can include; getting separated or divorced, getting married, having a child, moving house and if the executor named in the Will dies. The only way you can change a Will is by making an official alteration called a codicil. A codicil is a straightforward document that needs to be signed and witnessed in the same way as a Will. It allows you to make amendments to an existing Will instead of completely re-writing an already written version. Codicils are ideal for very small changes if you are changing several sections it may be better to rewrite your Will.
How do I leave a gift to Heart of Kent Hospice and should I tell you?
If you wish to include Heart of Kent Hospice in your Will then you should discuss this with your Solicitor. Wills are a private document and you do not need to inform us of your intentions, however if you do inform us, we can keep in touch and allow you to see how your intended gift will be used to support our work.
