Bereavement support

We offer a range of bereavement support services for the families, friends and carers of our patients.

We're here to support you now, in several months or even up to two years after your loss.

It’s only natural after the death of a loved one to feel grief. How we mourn and deal with that loss is entirely personal. The most important thing to realise is that you don’t need to face it alone. We offer support in two ways – a bereavement drop-in and individual bereavement counselling.

Many people face their grief with the support of family and friends, but for some people it may be helpful to see a professional. We offer 1:1 bereavement counselling for adults, this maybe on the phone, on-line or face-to-face at the Hospice.

Bereavement drop-in

As part of our Hospice Hub services, we offer a bereavement drop-in on Wednesdays from 10:00am - 12:00pm.

This session is for the family and close friendships of patients who have died whilst under the care of the Hospice. There is no need to pre-book. Come and  meet others who are facing similar challenges, speak with someone about your grief, whether you are newly bereaved, or it’s been several months or even up to two years after your loss.

Don’t brush it off.  Be open-minded, give it a go and see what happens.  I wouldn’t be where I am today without it and the support of my family. The Hospice staff are very focused on everybody, they’re so kind and caring.

Our bereavement support sessions aim to provide:

Someone to listen to you in a safe and understanding environment

Signposting you to other bereavement services within the Hospice such as 1:1 counselling

Signposting you to bereavement groups and activities in the wider community

A chance to talk with a counsellor or members of our spiritual care team in confidence

An opportunity to talk to others in a similar situation

Bereavement booklet

We have created a bereavement booklet to help support you through the process of grief.

We want to reassure you that the range of emotions you are feeling are a natural part of bereavement. The booklet also contains information on people and groups that can also support you.

Give in memory

You may choose to remember your loved one by setting up an online memorial page or making a gift to the Hospice in memory of your loved one.

Every life is special and unique in their own way, making a donation in memory of a loved one is a wonderful way to celebrate their life. You could create a lasting tribute where you can add thoughts and reflections as well as sums of money that have been donated in their name. If you are considering making a donation to us in memory of someone, we are truly grateful for thinking of us at a difficult time.
