A gift to the hospice is an effective way to ensure this care continues to be there in years to come.

Heart of Kent Hospice provides specialist compassionate care and support for anyone in the local community with a terminal illness, enabling them to live in comfort, with independence and dignity to the end of their lives, as well as supporting those closest to them. The teams include specialist doctors, nurses, counsellors, welfare advisers, and spiritual team who provide emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing to those under the hospice’ care.

Heart of Kent Hospice receives only 18of its funding from the government. It costs over £7.6 million to run the hospice and all its services for the community and the cost keeps rising. A gift to the hospice is an effective way to ensure this care continues to be there in years to come.

We’re proud to be part of Hospice UK’s National Legacy Campaign

We’re taking part in Hospice UK’s award-winning National Hospice Legacy Campaign: Together, we can protect the future of hospice care.

Hospice care supports people and families through some of life’s most important moments. Gifts in Wills have long helped hospices continue this work, enabling care to be shaped by compassion, dignity and choice. As more people choose to leave a legacy gift, it’s becoming an increasingly meaningful way to support hospice care for the future.

By joining this national campaign, we’re working alongside hospices across England, Scotland and Wales to raise awareness of the difference that legacy giving can make. The campaign brings hospice care front-of-mind and helps more people understand how leaving a gift in their Will can protect compassionate, specialist care for future generations.

Hospice care comes in so many different forms - from hand massages to allowing a cherished pet to stay beside you.

David worked as a music teacher and was an extremely talented jazz pianist. During his career he worked predominantly in music therapy with children who had a range of additional needs. Later, David used music as his own therapy in dealing with his terminal cancer diagnosis.

David kindly agreed to share his story with us, before he sadly passed away in July.

“I received a bachelor’s degree in music and then went on to do a post graduate degree in education. During this time, I took on some work as a carer, working with people with learning difficulties. Once I’d completed my PGCE, I got a job at Milestone’s school in Dartford."

Don't have a Will? Make one!

Make a Will Month is your chance to make or update your Will through a local partner solicitor and help fund your hospice's vital services at the same time.

Our partnering solicitors have generously gifted their time to offer basic Will-writing appointments in exchange for donation to Heart of Kent Hospice. Each type of Will-writing appointment has a set donation price, which represent a substantial discount on the solicitors' normal commercial rates.

Why is it so important to have a Will?

It doesn’t matter how old you are or how much you own, when you have an up-to-date, professionally written Will, you can feel reassured that your wishes will be carried out in the event of your death. Without a valid, up-to-date Will, the people who are important to you may not receive what you want them to receive, and others may benefit instead.

Do I have to use a solicitor to write or change my Will?

We strongly recommended that you consult a Solicitor or Will writing professional so that they can advise you and handle the Will writing process for you. If you don’t seek legal advice, your Will may be found to be invalid or ambiguous, and this can be distressing and costly for those who must sort it out.

If you already have a Will and you wish to add a gift for the Hospice, it’s easy for your solicitor to draw up an amendment, called a Codicil.

You can search for someone to provide you with legal advice at the Law Society www.lawsociety.org.uk

Why should I include Heart of Kent Hospice in my Will?

The Hospice is a registered charity that receives only around 20% of its funding from the government and the cost of running the hospice keeps rising. It’s people like you who will power it forward into the future.

Heart of Kent Hospice provides specialist compassionate care and support for anyone in your local community with a terminal illness, enabling them to live in comfort, with independence and dignity to the end of their lives, as well as supporting those closest to them. Our team includes specialist doctors, nurses, counsellors, welfare advisers, a spiritual welfare team and over 600 volunteers from the local area.   A gift in your Will to the hospice is the most effective way for you to ensure this care continues to be there in years to come. The hospice team of the future needs you!

Do I have to tell the hospice if I leave a gift in my Will?

A Will is a personal and private matter and it is entirely up to you whether you tell us that you have decided to leave us a gift. However, if you do, we would love to thank you for your kindness and it will also assist us in our long-term planning for the future. We promise to keep anything you tell us completely confidential, and of course, we understand that you may wish to change your mind in future.
