About your Hospice

At Heart of Kent Hospice, we believe that everyone deserves compassionate, specialist care when there is no cure for their illness and when they have a limited time left to live.

We provide specialist care and support to adults who have a terminal illness as well as their families, friends and carers. We help people to live as fully and as well as possible for the rest of their lives and ensure that their final days are comfortable and peaceful, wherever they choose to be.

We treat every individual as the unique and special person that they are. Everything we do is tailored and personalised.

We are a charity and we don’t charge a penny for our care. We depend on the compassion and kindness of you, the people of this community, to power our services and ensure that everyone gets the help they need.

The community we support

Every year we support thousands of people as well as their families, friends and carers.

Some of our care is provided in the Hospice building in Aylesford, but we also support people in their own homes and in residential homes, if they live within the area outlined on this map:

Our vision and strategy

Find out more

Securing income and future success:

Heart of Kent Hospice can only continue to provide outstanding palliative and end-of-life care and help even more people if we have the funds to do it. We need to grow our income and secure plans to relocate to a newly built Hospice.

Extending the reach of our specialist palliative and end-of-life care :

Against a backdrop of increasing demand for our services, we need to identify how we can reach more people. We will review our models of care and seek to find ways to ensure we are there for everyone who needs our support.

Supporting our colleagues and volunteers to achieve and thrive:

Our Hospice makes a real difference to local people because we have incredible teams of colleagues and volunteers. Ensuring that our colleagues and volunteers can thrive at work is a critical priority for our future success.

Expanding our reputation and recognition as an outstanding organisation:

Quality and excellence are at the heart of everything we do, and our outstanding reputation lies at the core of achieving our strategic plan.

Our History

Since the Hospice opened we have cared for over 62,000 people – patients, their carers and families

Heart of Kent Hospice first opened its doors in 1991 as a result of the dedication of local people who set up the ‘Wishing Well Appeal’ to raise £1.3m to build the Hospice.

Patient and family stories

Karen and David's Story

When Karen was diagnosed with early-onset dementia our specialist Dementia Team were able to provide advice and support to both Karen and her husband David. In this video David shares their story. He explains how he learnt more about the work of the Hospice, the essential support he received as a carer, and how with this support their family were able to have one special last Christmas together.
