Care can't wait this winter

Often when people think about hospice care, their first thought is of our Inpatient Unit. The quiet rooms, the soft light, the sense of calm that wraps around families the moment they walk through our doors.

But this winter, most of the care we give will not happen inside our hospice walls.

It will happen in people's homes on cold, dark days when a family is overwhelmed and doesn’t know who to call.

It will happen around kitchen tables, when difficult conversations need to be had. It will happen in bedrooms where someone longs to stay; safe, warm and at home.

It will happen because people like you make it possible.

Every day, our Hospice Community Team colleagues make reassuring phone calls and travel across Maidstone and the surrounding villages, bringing urgent symptom control and pain management, specialist clinical advice and compassionate support directly into the homes of people under our care.

Because of you, our colleagues prevent unnecessary hospital admissions. They steady carers who are exhausted and struggling. They make dignity possible when everything feels fragile.

Our Hospice Community Team helps people who wish to spend their final days at home do just that, surrounded by the people and places they love.

We're committed to protecting this choice for every person under our care, but rising costs are making it harder to reach everyone who needs us.

"When the Hospice Community Team came to our home and we talked through what the future might hold, I saw a sense of relief come over Don. There is no way I could have cared for Don the way I did, without the hospice. To be able to pick up the phone and receive help while sitting in the same room as the man I loved, a man who was so very sick, meant more than I can express."
