Community kindness knitted into 35-year hospice tribute

The Allington Library Knit and Natter group has created something truly special for our 35th anniversary
We've kicked off our 35th anniversary with a fundraising challenge to raise £35,000 in 35 days - and the response from our community has been incredible. In just two weeks, you've helped raise £28,273. Thank you.
Michelle Winstone, our Head of Fundraising, said: "We have the most wonderful community - one that truly values its hospice and the care it provides. We've been humbled by the generosity and support, which has come in so many forms."
Amongst the many lovely gestures we've received, one really stopped us in our tracks. Sandra Goggin and Sue Thorne from the Allington Library Knit and Natter group - along with fellow members - have spent around two months creating a stunning knitted display celebrating 35 years of hospice care.
What started as an idea to knit a celebratory cake quickly grew into something much bigger.
The finished piece features some well-loved hospice fundraising moments - the wing walk, Moonlit Walk, Bluebell Walk and Sunflower Appeal - alongside community favourites like Shaun the Sheep and the Elmer trail.
It also pays tribute to the colleagues and volunteers who've helped the hospice thrive over the years.
Sandra said: "We wanted to include lots of memories and moments that people in the community would recognise, and to show how much the hospice means to us."
The group has also donated a box of knitted blankets and handmade items for us to sell in our charity shops - a wonderful added boost to the appeal.
Miranda Gibbs, our Individual Giving Manager, said: "We were absolutely blown away when we saw the finished display. The attention to detail is incredible - it's so humbling to see how much the hospice means to people."
