Interior designer Kate Horrell gives us a fresh new look

A cherished space at Heart of Kent Hospice has been given a beautiful new look - all thanks to the generosity of some wonderful people
Little Bold Design founder Kate Horrell has helped transform a central space at Heart of Kent Hospice, bringing her creative vision to a project inspired by the importance of thoughtful, welcoming interiors in places that support families and communities.
A much-loved central space at Heart of Kent Hospice has been given a thoughtful new look thanks to the creativity and generosity of interior designer Kate Horrell, founder of Little Bold Design. Inspired by nature and the restorative power of colour, the redesigned room has been carefully refreshed to create a more uplifting, welcoming and comforting environment for patients, visitors and colleagues alike.
For Kate, the project was first and foremost an opportunity to use design in a meaningful way, helping to refresh an important shared space within the hospice. With a personal connection, the project carried an added sense of purpose, but the focus remained on creating a room that feels brighter, more welcoming and more supportive for everyone who uses it. Kate said “Central to this vision was the use of colour and natural inspiration to bring a sense of calm, warmth and gentle connection to the outdoors. I am absolutely thrilled with the result and can’t thank enough those that were involved.”
The project was also made possible by the generosity of a wider team who stepped forward to support the hospice. Photowall, an online company heavily discounted the wall mural for Kate, and Albany paints were donated free of charge by Brewers, while the full decoration of the room was carried out free of charge by Megs and Don of Contemporary Coatings. Their kindness and community spirit helped bring Kate’s vision to life and ensured the transformation could happen without cost.
Together, this collaboration is a powerful example of how creative vision and community support can transform the spaces that matter most. By combining Kate Horrell’s design expertise with the generosity of local businesses, the project has delivered a renewed room that reflects care, warmth and compassion at the heart of hospice life.
Maria Sullivan, Director of Income Generation at the Hospice said “We are so very grateful to Kate, Shayne & Dean from Brewers, Megs and Don from Contemporary Coatings for all they have done to support this new inspired space in the heart of the hospice. Kate’s vision has come to life and we hope to reinvigorate other areas of the hospice inspired by Kate’s vision. This has truly been a perfect collaboration."
