International Volunteers Day

This International Volunteers Day, we spoke to one of our volunteers to find out what drives them to generously gift their time to our Hospice.
Q: Why did you begin volunteering for the Hospice?
“My wife was cared for by the Hospice eight years ago. They did everything that they could have done for her and I want to do the same for the Hospice, to give back. In fact, it was my daughter that first suggested volunteering to help”.
Q: What do you get out of volunteering?
“Usually I do two days a week but I do additional days if they are short, if someone is off. One of things I’ve noticed is that everybody is so friendly and everyone talks to everyone else. Everyone is nice to each other and that makes a lot of difference. I don’t think I’ve walked through the corridor and someone’s not said anything to me”.
“It’s one of the best things that I have ever done, there is no doubt about it… My teammates are the greatest people that I have ever worked with, they really are. I really look forward to coming in. Dharm [Head of Facilities] is an excellent manager and a natural leader, and I’m always thanked for what I do”
