About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and adaptable Relief Retail Manager to provide management cover across Heart of Kent Hospice shops and support key retail projects throughout our estate.

This is a varied and rewarding role for a confident retail leader who thrives on new challenges, enjoys working with different teams, and can quickly step into a shop to ensure it continues to trade successfully. When not providing management cover, you'll support visual merchandising initiatives, shop refits, openings, relocations and other retail improvement projects.

Every day our shops generate vital income that helps fund specialist hospice care for local people and their families. As a Relief Retail Manager, you'll play a key role in protecting and growing that income.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide management cover across Hospice shops, often at short notice.
  • Lead, motivate and support colleagues and volunteers to deliver excellent customer service and sales performance.
  • Manage daily shop operations, including cash handling, banking, administration and compliance.
  • Monitor sales performance and take action to maximise income and achieve targets.
  • Ensure high standards of stock management, merchandising, housekeeping and store presentation.
  • Recruit, train and support volunteers and colleagues.
  • Deliver retail projects, including visual merchandising improvements, shop refits, openings and relocations.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety, security and operational compliance.
  • Act as an ambassador for Heart of Kent Hospice across the local community.

About You

You'll be a confident retail professional who can quickly adapt to different environments and build positive relationships with teams and volunteers.

Essential Requirements

  • Retail management experience with responsibility for sales targets and team leadership.
  • Experience analysing sales performance and taking action to improve results.
  • Strong visual merchandising and store presentation skills.
  • Experience managing cash handling and financial controls.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and provide effective management cover at short notice.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle for business use.
  • Willingness to travel across the Hospice retail estate.
  • Ability to undertake occasional lifting and moving of stock, fixtures and furniture.

Desirable Requirements

  • Charity retail experience and knowledge of Gift Aid.
  • Multi-site or relief management experience.
  • Experience of shop refits, openings and retail projects.
  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers.
  • Knowledge of EPOS, retail reporting systems and Microsoft 365 applications.

An Enhanced DBS Check will be required if you are successfully appointed.
