Voices for Hospices choir sings for Heart of Kent Hospice

The Hospice choir, led by Maidstone Choral Union (MCU), will perform Vivaldi's Gloria and Songs on the theme of Love on Saturday 26 October 2024 at 7:30pm in Mote Hall at the Maidstone Leisure Centre.

The 120 strong choir will be performing to raise money for us and have been practicing hard at rehearsals to make this an unforgettable evening of music.

This inspiring event will showcase songs conducted by Ciara Considine, with guest performers including Innominata chamber choir, Hilton Hall Dance Academy, renowned soloists Rachael Lloyd and Nicola Corbishley and talented instrumentalists.

About Vivaldi's Gloria

Vivaldi composed the Gloria in Venice around 1715 for the choir of the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage for girls. The Ospedale was known for its high-quality musical education and excellent choir and orchestra.

As a priest and virtuoso violinist, Vivaldi spent most of his career at the Ospedale, where he composed numerous sacred works and hundreds of instrumental concertos for the girls' orchestra.

His most famous choral piece, the Gloria, is a testament to his compositional prowess. It consists of 12 varied cantata-like sections, each a unique musical journey, and presents the traditional Gloria from the Latin Mass.

Several well-known love songs will also be performed by the choir during the evening including Phantom of the Opera, Don’t Cry for Me Argentina (Evita) and Love Changes Everything (Aspects of Love) by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel.
