Young fundraiser conquers Mount Snowdon

Young fundraiser 7-year-old Jacob Wrighton, his dad Jamie and granddad Steve successfully climbed Mount Snowdon last month in support of the hospice.

Jacob chose to fundraise for the hospice after his school, West Malling C of E Primary School, supported us during the Shaun the Sheep in the Heart of Kent Art Trail. He also wanted to fundraise for his local hospice in honour of ‘Granny Jean’ who was cared for at another hospice.

Jamie said: “Jacob absolutely smashed Snowdon yesterday, climbing through some tough weather conditions for over 4 hours to reach the summit of the highest mountain in Wales!”

Jamie had this to say about his epic climbing challenge:

What was the best part of climbing Mount Snowdon?

“Completing a great challenge with my Dad and Grandad and seeing the bit when the clouds opened up on the mountain and we could see the lovely view below”

How did it feel when you, dad and Grandad Steve got to the top?

“Joyful and fun!”

If someone else wanted to do something brave like climbing Mount Snowdon, what would you tell them?

“It’s a tricky challenge but lots of fun!”

If you could climb up a mountain again with ANYONE -real or imaginary – who would it be and why?

“Jude Bellingham & Kylian Mbappé because they are my favourite players”

Jacob’s family are very proud of his achievement and had this to say about Jacob’s achievement:

What did it mean to you to see Jacob take this on at just 7 years old?

“We are very proud that Jacob made such an inspiring decision to raise money for a wonderful cause and to set himself the challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon. It was a proud moment for us all and it meant a lot to us that it was also in honour of his nan.”

Why was supporting Heart of Kent Hospice important to all the family?

“During the time Jacob’s great nan Jean Robinson was in her local hospice we fully began to understand the impact and great work and care a hospice can provide at such a difficult time for not only the person being cared for but the wider family support around them too. Giving to our local hospice felt like such a worthy cause and Jacob was familiar with Heart of Kent Hospice as the school regularly talk about it and fundraise as often as they can.”

What would you say to other families/friends thinking about doing something big for charity together?

“Go for it! If you are thinking about it, just do it it’s worth it.”

What do you think Jacob’s next challenge will be?!

“Jacob is keen to climb Scafell Pike next!”
