We celebrate 35 years of care, intending to raise £35,000 in 35 days

This week sees the launch of Heart of Kent Hospice’s 35-year celebrations. Kicking off with an ambitious 35-years of care appeal, to raise £35,000 in 35 days.

The hospice was officially opened by HRH Diana, Princess of Wales in 1992, although it opened its doors to the community in 1991.

35 Years of Care

Heart of Kent Hospice’s anniversary appeal runs for 35 days from 27 April to 31 May. If successful, the appeal could fund an additional 1,200 hours of specialist inpatient care, helping ensure the hospice can continue to be there for families when they need it most.

Maria Sullivan, Interim Director of Income Generation at Heart of Kent Hospice said: “As we mark 35 years of care, our focus is firmly on the future. By 2040, the number of people aged 65 and over in Kent is expected to increase by a third. More families will need our support, and we are committed to being there for every single one.”

The hospice will be celebrating with several special occasions across the year starting with their much-loved Bluebell Walk on Sunday, 3 May. Mayor Cllr Martin Round will be opening the event alongside the man dubbed ‘The Bluebell Legend ' by hospice colleagues, Ivor Knight. Ivor, with no prior links to the hospice, joined the debut Bluebell Walk in 1990 to raise funds to open the hospice and has come back every year since.

The Family Support Group service, funded by BBC Children in Need, is having a party with Marli the Magician in attendance and face painting. The session runs on 30 May between 10am-12pm and is open to all children and families under the hospice’s care and those living with a life-limiting illness in Kent.

Any gift you choose to make will help ensure that the hospice remains here for future generations; for today's children, tomorrow's families and those yet to need their care.
