"Hello - my name is Emily and I’m a nurse at Heart of Kent Hospice. Two years ago, I completed my final student placement in the Inpatient Unit at the hospice. The hospice team showed me the nurse I wanted to be and helped me to become that nurse. I’m only 23, but now here I am, a qualified nurse, working with the team again. You can understand why it feels like I’ve come home.

In hospital, the focus is on making people better, but at the hospice it’s different. Here, the focus is on the life a person has left to live, and making sure it’s as good as it can be."

In the year 2024/25, we cared for 2,153 local people. That’s 2,153 lives where compassion led the way. Our Community Team supported 68% of those who died under our care to die at home, and 88% in their preferred place of care. That’s what dignity looks like. That’s what choice feels like. Nursing care both in our Inpatient unit and in the Community is the hospice's biggest ongoing cost, and the most vital. Please choose to make a donation today.
