Leave a gift in your Will

You can help ensure compassionate hospice care is there for local people, now and for generations to come

Heart of Kent Hospice provides compassionate care and support for people living with a terminal illness, and those closest to them. It costs over £7.6 million to run the hospice and all its services, and the cost keeps rising. With less than 20% of our funding coming from the government, gifts in Wills help to secure the future of hospice care in your community.

As part of Hospice UK's award-winning National Hospice Legacy Campaign, we're joining hospices across England, Scotland and Wales to help protect the future of hospice care.

Gifts in Wills have long helped hospices provide compassionate, specialist care for people and families when they need it most. Through this campaign, we're raising awareness of the lasting difference a legacy gift can make, helping ensure hospice care remains available for future generations.

For decades, David and his beloved wife Norma, who sadly died in 2024, supported Heart of Kent Hospice and played a part in its journey from vision to reality. Their shared passion for ensuring everyone has access to compassionate end-of-life care inspired them to leave gifts in their Wills, with David continuing to support the Hospice in Norma's memory.

“My dear wife Norma was a passionate champion of hospice care. The gifts we left to Heart of Kent Hospice in our Wills will be a fond legacy to the Hospice which Norma loved and will help to safeguard the future of hospice care in this community.”

Why is it so important to have a Will?

It doesn’t matter how old you are or how much you own, when you have an up-to-date, professionally written Will, you can feel reassured that your wishes will be carried out in the event of your death. Without a valid, up-to-date Will, the people who are important to you may not receive what you want them to receive, and others may benefit instead.

Do I have to use a solicitor to write or change my Will?

We strongly recommended that you consult a Solicitor or Will writing professional so that they can advise you and handle the Will writing process for you. If you don’t seek legal advice, your Will may be found to be invalid or ambiguous, and this can be distressing and costly for those who must sort it out.

If you already have a Will and you wish to add a gift for the Hospice, it’s easy for your solicitor to draw up an amendment, called a Codicil.

You can search for someone to provide you with legal advice at the Law Society www.lawsociety.org.uk

Why should I include Heart of Kent Hospice in my Will?

The Hospice is a registered charity that receives less than 20% of its funding from the government and the cost of running the hospice keeps rising. It’s people like you who will power it forward into the future.

Heart of Kent Hospice provides specialist compassionate care and support for anyone in your local community with a terminal illness, enabling them to live in comfort, with independence and dignity to the end of their lives, as well as supporting those closest to them. Our team includes specialist doctors, nurses, counsellors, welfare advisers, a spiritual welfare team and over 600 volunteers from the local area.   A gift in your Will to the hospice is the most effective way for you to ensure this care continues to be there in years to come. The hospice team of the future needs you!

Do I have to tell the hospice if I leave a gift in my Will?

A Will is a personal and private matter and it is entirely up to you whether you tell us that you have decided to leave us a gift. However, if you do, we would love to thank you for your kindness and it will also assist us in our long-term planning for the future. We promise to keep anything you tell us completely confidential, and of course, we understand that you may wish to change your mind in future.
